Open
As is tradition, there is a Rising (12 teams) and High (8 teams) division. Each division will start with a round robin. The High division will have 2 pools of 4 teams, the Rising division will have 4 pools of 3 teams. Teams have been seeded based on previous results and the information provided during registration. Ties in the number of wins will be broken using the following criteria.
Teams that end 1st and 2nd in the High pools will be directly seeded in the High quarter finals. Teams that end 3rd and 4th in the High pools will play a crossover game with one of the winners of a Rising pool. The winners of these crossover games are seeded in the High quarter finals, the losers in the Rising quarter finals.
The numbers 2 and 3 of the Rising pools will play a round-of-16 game to determine who advances to the Rising quarter finals, and who falls to the bottom 4. On Monday, each division will play a bracket to determine the winner. The bottom 4 of the Rising division will play another round robin between them.
Women
There are 7 women's teams this year. Teams have been given an initial seeding based on previous results and the information provided during registration.
On Sunday, all teams will play 4 games against opponents with a good spread of initial seedings. Some will be close to your initial seeding, some further away (in either direction, depending on your own seed). Based on the results of these games, a new ranking will be calculated based on power rankings. Power rankings work on the assumption that each team can be assigned a power rating in such a way that the power difference between teams is representative of the score difference in a game between them. After each game round, the power rankings will be recalculated, considering all played games.
Power rankings are based on score differentials, meaning each point counts! In general, your power rating should increase if you can achieve a better score differential than what is expected based on your respective power ratings. However, the results of other games also matter: if e.g. you beat a team by 10 points in the first round, you might have a very high power rating, but if that team keeps losing every game by the same margin, the value of your win over them decreases and so will your power rating.
The final ranking will be made when all rounds are played on Sunday. On Monday, the top four will play in brackets, and the bottom three will finish the tournament with a round robin.
Scoring
Game results must be submitted to the info desk by the winning team. Please report them as soon as your game (and spirit circle) is finished. Spirit scores need to be submitted through ultie.org. Check the documentation if you need help. There will also be qr codes around the venue you can use to submit spirit scores.
There will be a spirit prize for the Women, High and Rising division!
Rules
Unless otherwise specified, Rising High will use the 2025 WFDF rules. Games will be played to 15 points. There is a 1-minute half time when the first team reaches 8 points or after 30 minutes, whichever comes first. A half-time jingle will be played at 30 minutes. At 60 minutes, the game ends when the ongoing point is scored. If the game is tied, play a universe point. The time is up at the start of the jingle. Each team gets 1 (2 minute) timeout per half. No timeouts are allowed in the last 5 minutes of the game (there will be a jingle to announce the last 5 minutes). If a game bleeds into the next game slot, just start the next game as soon as possible, but time still ends on the jingle. We want to avoid cascading delays.
For all 1st place finals
- When time is over, add 1 to the highest score and play to that (maximum 15).
- If the previous game blends into the next game, the next game will start as soon as possible but will still be 60 min.
